SOFTWARE PLANNER IMPROVES THE SOFTWARE
DEVELOPMENT LIFECYCLE
WITH CONFIGURABLE WORKFLOW AND ROBUST PROJECT REPORTING
Pragmatic
Software Company
(http://www.pragmaticsw.com)
announced major enhancements to Software Planner (http://www.SoftwarePlanner.com),
its configurable software development lifecycle (SDLC) tool.
Software Planner release 7.6 offers configurable workflow, feature
linkages, and enhanced project management reporting.
Chief among the
updates, according to Steve Miller, President/CEO of Pragmatic
Software, are the workflow features. “From
a single interface, clients now have the ability to define
enforceable processes or workflows from requirements all the way
through to defect management. For example, when defining
requirements for a software project, the IT department may want to
implement rules that define the various states of each requirement.
Imagine a scenario where a requirement must move from a status of
New to Estimating, then to Costing and finally to
Approval or Rejection. This is now possible and a
resource can automatically be assigned when a specific status is
embarked upon,” says Miller.
A key to the
workflow configuration is that it works with what ever project
management methodology the IT department embraces (Waterfall, Agile,
Spiral, etc). This allows the IT department to fit the tool around
their established process rather than melding their process to fit
the tool.
In addition to
workflow management, Pragmatic Software implemented the ability to
link areas of the software with other areas of the software.
Most notable for the SDLC is the ability to link defects to test
cases, test cases to customer requirements and customer requirements
to project tasks. According to Miller, “The new linkage
features quicken the ability to provide traceability between
separate areas of the software. For example, you can quickly
determine if the quality team has adequate test case coverage for
each requirement.”
From a project
management perspective, Software Planner also includes a plethora of
new project management reports. Most of these reports revolve
around variance reporting, allowing the IT department to determine
what projects are being delivered on-time and on-budget, and those
that are not.
Software
Planner has a loyal client base. Terry Mack, Quality Assurance
Manager of Fortress Technologies states “I’ve been managing Quality
Assurance for over 10 years, and during which time I’ve used many
types of Test Case/Defect management tools. Software Planner is by
far the best approach to development workflow and total process
management from start to finish.”
